Vacation 2010-LONG POST!

This past week (July 31-August 7) we went on a much needed family vacation (this was our first family of 4 vacation and Kylie is 2!!). When I say we, I not only mean our family of 4, but the rest of my immediate family as well. My mom and dad, along with my sister and her boyfriend and their 3 children, as well as my brother and sister-in-law all spent a week up north in a cabin all together near Park Rapids. This was our first year at this resort and we all agreed that this was a keeper of a resort! Half Moon Trail on Boot Lake had just about everything that we wanted. The owners and staff were beyond nice and courteous, the cabin was super clean and well maintained, the activities for the children were very well thought out/planned/executed and the overall feel was quite warm and relaxing. I think the only thing that may have been missing dealt with fishing. Although many fish were caught, there wasn't any fish of substantial size. In my opinion, if that was the only complaint, I think we had it made!

Here are some pictures from our cabin:

The owners of the resort are licensed teachers that home school their own children during the school year and boy can you tell! Throughout the week there were several children's activities that were planned to keep the little ones entertained. The first activity was story time for Kylie. During this hour Mary, the owner, read books to the children, let them feed the fish in the aquarium, helped them with floor puzzles and they got to color their own little wooden fish. At the same time that Kylie was at story time, Camryn went with Casey to make racing cars (the adults got to make one as well). The following day was race day where there was a long wooden track for practicing on as well as the BIG RACES!

Derby came in 1st place and Casey came in 2nd in the adult race!!

The next activity was the minnow races. The kids got to pick a minnow from a bucket and wait for their turn to race against another child to see whose minnow could make it past the finish line first (the minnows swam down dual gutters and once they passed the stick, they won). There were two races and although Camryn's minnow lost after the second round in the first race, her minnow took 4th in the final race!
Choosing just the right one...

Camryn's minnow she named "Nemo"

"Nemo" vs. "Bob II" (Bob #1 died after Logan continually took it out of the cup while waiting for the second race to begin...). "Nemo" finally won after 3 race attempts!

Yet another activity planned was a treasure hunt. During naptime, Camryn, Logan and Ian all went into the woods behind our cabin with the owner's son, Nate. Once there, they searched for clues, searched for items and played bean bag toss all to find out where the treasure was hiding. In the end, it was found in the owner's trunk in the parking lot and candy was had by all!
Bringing clues back to Nate:

Figuring out the clues--nice job adults!

Tossing for clues:

TREASURE!!

Besides all of the wonderful kids activities, we enjoyed fishing, swimming in the pool, relaxing in and around the cabin, playing at the park, going to Itasca State Park and eating S'Mores!! We all had a great time and can't wait to see if another week opens up next year at that resort! Here are some more pictures from the week:
